Tennessee's movie is...
Nashville
Robert Altman's rambling, ambitious, and brilliant Nashville attempted something nearly impossible - to summarize the state of the Union on the eve of its bicentennial through the city's country and gospel music scenes - and succeeded with aplomb. With more than 20 lead characters (many of whom were required to write and sing their own songs), Nashville defines the term "Altman-esque," and it captures the turbulent tenor of the mid-1970s and the hum of activity in the Music City. Filmed on location utilizing many of the city's finest session musicians, Nashville is complex and epic in scope, but it's also a fascinating look at the intersection between entertainment and politics.
