If parents often misunderstand their teenage children, most still attempt to encourage them through their difficult high school years. Not Margaret White (Piper Laurie), however; she?s convinced her daughter Carrie (Sissy Spacek) is a wretched tool of Satan. Even worse, she doesn?t want her outcast daughter to attend the wicked, sinful prom. Though one can take exception to Margaret?s methods, she does have a point; Carrie possesses telekinetic powers that allow her to wreak havoc on her insensitive classmates. Still, if Margaret had just loosened up a bit, and not berated her daughter with such barbs as ?They?re all gonna laugh at you,? Carrie could possibly have been a productive member of society ? as well as the steady galpal of Tommy.
