A Dangerous Method

Given that David Cronenberg has made a career probing the darker reaches of the human psyche, it shouldn't come as a surprise that his latest, A Dangerous Method, is a historical drama featuring not one, but two pioneers of psychoanalysis. Set in pre-World War I Vienna, A Dangerous Method explores the relationship between Sigmund Freud (Cronenberg regular Viggo Mortensen) and Carl Jung (Michael Fassbender), and how both fall under the spell of a troubled patient named Sabina (Keira Knightley). Its period setting is an interesting departure for Cronenberg, and though festival reviews indicate A Dangerous Method is a relatively restrained effort, they also say the Canadian master of psychological and physiological terror hasn't lost his ability to unsettle.
