An absolute masterpiece whose groundbreaking visuals and deft storytelling are still every bit as resonant. A must-see film for young and old.
Our Favorite Iconic Scene: More than 70 years after its original release, The Wizard of Oz holds up remarkably well; the sheer spectacle and timeless songs still have the power to enchant. In a movie full of classic scenes, the moment when Dorothy, Toto and the gang actually meet the titular wizard is one of the most dazzling; the bellowing, disembodied head of the wizard, surrounded by colored smoke is by turns frightening and amusing, and the sequence features on of Oz's most oft-quoted lines: "Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain!"
