Zombieland was the highest-voted movie by users? ...Really? It was good, but not 95% good.

Wasssup with all the cartoon crap! Put that Disney stuff in a category of its own, not with real actors. You want cartoons? Hollywood has been trying to do away with live actors for some time now to save cost. Looks like RT critics have paved the way.

Animation is a perfectly legitimate format. There's no reason it shouldn't be allowed to compete with live action films, some of which are mostly CGI anyway.

As for me, I agree with most of these choices. Congratulations to the winners!

Up did more with animation than half of the other films did with live action.

Animated movies are in no way lesser than "Live Action" films.

I think it speaks very highly of Disney Pixar that this is its third year in a row in which one of its movies has been the best reviewed film of the year. Animation has become a category that can affect all generations and all walks of life and that is why it constantly recieves so much respect from critics and viewers a like. This is a solid list, with very few big schocks, thank god for nothing twilight.

I fully agree with "State of Play" being the best thriller for 2009. It's an underrated movie, and it instantly become one of my all-time favorites.

The casting's very solid (thank goodness Brad Pitt and Ed Norton dropped out, and Russell Crowe and Ben Affleck filled in for their respective roles), despite a number of twists, it still holds together very well as political thriller and both tribute and farewell to newspapers.

A few things, the golden globes give animation their own category and not the academy so you can choose to respect whichever reward you want but I'd rather stick with the academy. Zombieland and Drag Me To Me Hell were dominant horror movies this year, awesome. The Damned United= #3 in drama and best movie no one is America has seen...

Actually, AAMPAS does have a 'Best Animated Feature' category. The last time an animated film was nominated for Best Picture was BEAUTY AND THE BEAST in 1992. And the last children's film that was nominated was BABE. But, with them expanding their 'Best Picture' category to ten nominations, this all seems a bit silly, especially considering 2009 was a year when films like UP, THE FANTASTIC MR. FOX, and CORALINE are head-and-shoulders above the majority of films to see wide theatrical release.

Actually, the Academy started the Animation Category so animated movies would get their well deserved Oscars. After that, the Golden Globes created that category as well.

Up was aided by the larger shortlist this year, but hell, it deserves its Best Picture nomination, as well as the Golden Tomato.

What does "It's not 95% good" even mean? That isn't the average score given by users, that's just the percentage of people that liked it. I personally find it hard to believe that anyone could not like that film - it's really one of the best that came out last year.

@Jake007:

And even if we ignore Rotten Tomatoes way of rating things with the Tomatometer, I still think the 8.5 average use score is slightly high. Zombieland was decent. I liked it, but it wasn't great. It had an abrupt ending and it meandered at times when it could have been more focused. The special cameo was extremely enjoyable, but I feel that without it the movie might not have been nearly as good.

To put it in terms you can more clearly understand, and a longer explanation that you seem to require, I am surprised other movies that were far, FAR superior to Zombieland didn't receive as many positive ratings compared to negative ones. Especially given the issues that were apparent in Zombieland. So many people on RT seem to pride themselves on being piercing film critics, at least based on the deep, deep analysis of things like Avatar evidenced in the comments on many threads, and why that's such a load of crap. But I guess it's not really that surprising.

At least Zombieland isn't something like Twilight: New Moon, so I can take solace that the RT community isn't as stupid as "The People" as represented in something like The People's Choice Awards. :)

I don't have a problem that people liked Zombieland. I'm just surprised they didn't like other things more.

Glad Adventureland topped a list, that film deserves more attention than it gets.

And In the Loop is, in my opinion, the funniest movie I've seen in decades.

An award is something given to a person or a group of people to recognize excellence in a certain field; a certificate of excellence. Awards are often signified by trophies, titles, certificates, commemorative plaques, medals, badges, pins, or ribbons. An award may carry a monetary prize given to the recipient, for example, the Nobel Prize for contributions to society or the Pulitzer Prize for literary achievements. An award may also simply be a public acknowledgment of excellence, without any tangible token or prize.

Awards can be given by any person or institution, although the prestige of an award usually depends on the status of the awarder. Usually, awards are given by an organization of some sort, or by the office of an official within an organization or government. For instance, a special presidential citation (as given by the President of the United States) is a public announcement giving an official place of honor (e.g., a training, President Ronald Reagan gave a special presidential citation in 1984 to the Disney Channel for its excellent children's television programming.)
