Worst of the Worst
September 23, 2009
Discuss Article
Over the last decade, we've collected reviews for thousands of movies. Most films, even profoundly mediocre ones, can expect to receive at least cursory support from the pundits. However, once in a while, a film will take such a critical drubbing that further attention is warranted. That's where our Worst of the Worst list comes in. We've compiled a veritable cornucopia of dull, foolhardy, and outright terrible films, from legendary duds (Battlefield Earth) to chuckle-deficient comedies (Epic Movie), from hapless sequels (Basic Instinct 2) to scare-free would-be fright fests (Alone in the Dark). We've pored over the reviews to bring you the lowest Tomatometers of the decade -- including several (All About Steve, Whiteout) that were released within the last several weeks. In other words, we suffered for our work -- now it's your turn.

the movie thr3e was based off the book which came out in 2003... critics dont do their research at all.. this book came out BEFORE saw...
i admit.. a bunch of Christians making a movie didnt turn out so well for the "Saw/ Halloween/ Jason" kind of people looking for a good thrill..

most of these movies did not suprise me.. especially the epic movies and like those.. hah

I agreed with most of this list. There were a few that I didn't agree with, but one that I adamently disagreed with. I have reccommended Dragonfly to everyone I know and I and they love it. It was a great movie that dared to toy with every emotion in one movie. It definately didn't belong here. It should be replaced with Dead End. I expected to see that dozer on the list.

Though a long retired professional, I am addicted to some pretty bad movies. But you have to go a long way to beat the dreary confusion of Southland Tales. I'm embarrassed for The Rock.

I'll agree with the remake of the fog being terrible but diss for saying the original fog is not a good horror flick. the remake is a terrible remake of a decent movie (not stellar but not a bad horror film and a carpenter classic).
Also movies like waterworld and battlefield earth got a lot of early bad publicity as critics deadpanned them (waterworld for sinking two sets and being way overbudget) but weren't horrid (the fog is stellar compared to movies like those and granted thier not 2001 or the shinning). Not every movie has to be a million dollar blockbuster or criticaly aclaimed to be a success. what matters if its still watched 20 years from now. I do blast this site for pandering to critiques. Plenty of movies like the original Evil Dead are greats and were blasted by critics (and that went almost straight to video and was almost rated x).

also House of 1,000 corpses is undeserving of being on here and is a decent horror flick in my opinion (and its sequel).id wait and not spend money on battlefield earth or waterworld and watch them on scifi channel lol. rotten tommatoes gets a little of my flack for pandering to critiques instead of film merits.

What about all those FEAST movies? Half Past Dead part 2 should be in the top 10. Fear Dot Com was HORRIBLE OMG. Meet the Spartans,Kickin It Old School,Disater Movie,Epic Movie & King's Ransom were well deserved. 88 Minutes wasnt that bad. College & The New Guy are questionable. Some movies should get a pass for the sexy covers a la Dirty Love (2005) lol nahhhhhh it was GARBAGE.

Why aren't there any mockbusters by The Asylum listed? Each and every one of them deserves to be part of Worst of the Worst.

One movie that I think was overlooked for the 'Worst of the Worst' was 'Rumor Has It'. The film in question had no plot, and the performances were forced, at best (and at worst, they were painful to watch and even listen to).

How did War of the World with Tom Cruise not make this list is beyond me. I know it made over $100 million at the box office...but that was 2 house i'll never get back. I like Dakota Fanning...but I wanted to kill her with all the screaming she did in that movie. The absolute worst movie ever!!!
