2001 certainly is a colossal bore, unless you're on its wavelength, in which case it's one of the greatest films of all time.
It actually is a pretty boring film. There's very little being conveyed by twenty straight minutes of empty space with the overdubbed sound of breathing, even metaphorically.
Also, I really would have liked more fart jokes.

Thank you for forcing the movie industry to ruin Star Trek, The Day the Earth Stood Still, Planet of the Apes and to pass up every opportunity that came their way to make a movie that could be remembered for more than a few months.

The movie HAS to convey blank spacetime to the viewer in order to capture attention. Thought provocation is what the movie is all about. You're stupidity astonishes me. If you aren't a man of science don't watch science fiction, because people like you just create this negative chain of events and prevent masterpiece movies from earning the rating they deserve. IF you wish for more fart jokes go watch like austin powers you simpleton.

This review could not possibly be more accurate. And unlike 'E.E' was suggesting, whether you get this film or not is not a question of intellect. Out of nearly everyone I know I am one of the few who enjoy this film. While everyone else finds it a bore, I see it as one of the greatest pieces of science fiction ever created.

When someone tells me they did not admire much less like 2001 I always fell a sadness that, though I may want to care for that person, I know I never will. If they cannot realize the greatness of thiis film, they will never know me.

I would suggest re-reading the comment. I do believe the critic was enganing in irony:
"2001 certainly is a colossal bore" followed by,
"unless you're on its wavelength, in which case it's one of the greatest films of all time" insinuating that intelligent, artful people (you have to have some grasp of the science, and art in order to understand whats going on or its a mystery) will find this movie a breathtaking experience.
I suppose he should stick to giving critiques that are as imple as he can make them for thise who dont understand more then that.

To watch 2001 and think its a bore simply shows the level of intellectual ability (or infant-like lack thereof) of the viewer. Let me guess...Mozart is BORING too eh? I guess you're probably right- Kubrick should of inserted a fart joke every 5 minutes to keep the "kiddies" entertained...

You're not superior for enjoying a specific film. I love it, but I don't consider myself smarter because of it.

You're a douchebag.
Also, Beethoven kicks Mozart's ass.

Also, if you think you're intellectually superior to others because you enjoy classical music and "2001: A Space Odyssey", then you need to grow up.
