Seriously, so many haters. I am not even sure why people that hate Roland that much even read an article about him. If I hated a director that much, I would skip over the article and the movie when it came out. Find an article you like and write something positive, you'll feel better about yourself and you won't bring other people down.

His movies:
Stargate - cool flick, not sure what else could have been expected
I enjoyed both James Spader and Kurt Russell

Independence Day - Did exactly what it was supposed to, big budget fun, cool action and a fun movie. Of course there were flaws but looking for inaccuracies in a movie like ID4 means you have WAY TOO MUCH TIME ON YOUR HANDS (talk about a given, no one thought the movie would be perfect). Besides, Will Smith was great as pretty much always, I also enjoyed Jeff Goldblum. It made huge money world wide, had super long legs at the box office which means overall the fans really enjoyed it. I am sure he feels like a real loser for making such a huge success.

Day After Tomorrow - Hold on, you guys took this movie seriously? Well, there's your problem. I went for fun and that's what I got. Some very cool effects and I was entertained, that's what counts for a movie like that.

Godzilla - definitely got weaker as it went on but still entertaining. Matthew Broderick was cool and Jean Reno was fun as always. Certainly not an A grade movie but did anyone expect that from an American version of Godzilla?

Patriot - Really good flick, Heath and Mel were good and so was the movie.

10,000 BC - Looks really good, looking forward to it.

Big Budget entertainment delivered, that's what Roland does. His movies have been very successful for that reason, the people are happy. Try to have a bit more fun at the movies, not every movie is meant for the academy, some are just meant to entertain. If you don't like that kind of movie, don't go see it, it's that simple.

2012, I'm getting tired of sci-fi films that get outdated in a few years time.

Well you had to know Emmerich or, perhaps, someone much worse, was gonna jump on the 2012 bandwagon sooner or later.

Whats the big deal? The guy has made some bad movies. Don't blame him, he is just being smart. If the movie watchers of the world offered you 100 million dollars for a turd, you owuld do it to. He is just making what he knows will sell. Its not about the art of film at this point. Most people are intrigued by apocalyptic ideas. I thought it was kinda cool to see the earth nearly obliterated in "The Day after Tommorow" and "Independence Day". If the world was going to end tommorow, you would want a front row seat and you know it. I think that Roland knows this as well and concentrates more on that than actual good film making.

Is the directing in his films bad? YES

Is the acting mostly sub-par? YES

Is it really awesome to see a city destroyed? **** YEAH IT IS!

Thats the visceral type of attitude that most people take and thats fine with me. Its just an entertaining film (except Godzilla).

I think most of you are looking at his films like you would a modern art masterpiece, and thus criticizing them as such.

THIS IS NOT THE BEST PICTURE AWARD!!!!!

Look at it like you would anything that American Pop-Culture has brought us.
It all can be fun, it is all really cool.
However, is it artistic? NO

Doom the video game is pretentious and obsurd, just like the movie. From an artistic point of view, it owuld have sucked nuts. But WHO CARES, this is America. ITS FUN!!!!!!!!

I have a thin thread of hope that this one will be good enough to pay matinee price for..a very thin thread.

Then again,I have been wrong about several movies this past few months, so perhaps that means 10,000 will be a sleeper hit.

Not likely however.
