Da Vinci Code Casting Rumor & Possible Novel Deviations
According to Entertainment Weekly, Julie Delpy (Before Sunset) is rumored to have a role in the film. It's probably for the role of Sophie Nevue, the talented French cryptologist who accompanies Robert Langdon (Tom Hanks) in his journey to decipher the Da Vinci Code.
Due to pressure from the organization Opus Dei, which the novel portrays as being evil, EW also reveals that the filmmakers are considering changing the name of the cult to something else.

But what is the objective of an adapted screenplay? Is it to remain true to the author's book or to render the directors impression of the book. (Reply to this) |

He wrote the screenplay for the Academy Award winning A Beautiful Mind, but he's also responsible utter crap like Batman and Robin. I think it's mostly to render the director's impression of the book. Mainly, it's to make a cinematic version of the book. Some things on paper doesn't work as well on screen. (Reply to this) |

chrissowick writes: on Dec 13 2004 08:50 AM Tom Hanks Apparently Tom Hanks is slated to play Robert Langdon, which is a dissappointment to me. I love Tom Hanks, but I think he is not at all right for this role, I just can't see Tom Hanks as Robert Langdon. I think Russell Crowe would be far more fitting. I am curious how this book will be adapted, the best parts are certainly not the action. The book is all dialogue. One of the criticisms of the book is that they could never evade the authorities they way they did, and certainly as much as they stopped to talk about art history and symbology, which is absolutely necessary for the story. But that's WHY its the best part, and it only really works in book form. There is also tons of inner monologue, used in italics in the book, I wonder how they'll handle that. When I was reading the book I was wondering, "so when's the movie coming out?" but at the same time thinking, "this story wouldn't really work in movie form." Then I found out they WERE making a movie. If this turns into an action film it will most likely be aweful. (Reply to this) |

wonllese writes: on Dec 17 2004 02:42 PM In reply to this comment (#818544) crowe? im curious to know why Crowe would be a good choice? many people have suggested him. obviously he is a talented actor. and yes, he did portray a professor once. but... he doesn't fit the Robert Langon character. Crowe is big and stocky. he is a "man of action" who's better suited for the role of a boxer. Langon is tall and has a swimmers physique. not to mention he is more of a bookworm professor, rather than one of action [i.e. Indiana Jones] As disappointed as i am in the casting of Hanks, at least he fits Brown's description of Langdon. of course, this is just my opinion.
