Potter 5 Claims a Release Date
Omar at JoBlo's informs us that the fifth Harry Potter flick, entitled Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, will make its debut on July 13th, 2007 -- which should make for one Potter-crazy week, considering that J.K. Rowling's 7th and final chapter in the series is scheduled to hit book stores on 7/7/2007. (Book 7 of the Potter saga is as-yet-untitled.)
Regarding Order of the Phoenix ... I haven't read it. The movies come out so quickly that I just don't have the time, which means I'll leave it to one of our many Potterphiles to leave a Phoenix plot synopsis in the comments area below.

What I can tell you is that HP5 will be directed by series newcomer David Yates AND that, for the very first time, a new screenwriter has climbed aboard the series. While the first four HP flicks have been written by Steven Kloves, Part 5 will come with a screenplay penned by one Michael Goldenberg, whom you might know from Peter Pan, Contact, or Bed of Roses. Early word indicates that Mr. Kloves will be returning for movie #6.

on Apr 07 2006 11:58 AM It is when I have a backlog of other books I (really) want to read and spend 70% of my life watching/reviewing movies and scouring the internet for movie news. ;) (Reply to this) |

on Apr 07 2006 12:14 PM I can tell you that Order of the Pheonix is a much more straightforward story than Goblet and should translate better on screen. It is my favorite book of the series...should be a hit for WB (Reply to this) |

![]() on Apr 07 2006 08:32 PM I read the 6th book, nad I must say, the 7th book is the most anticipated I have ever felt for a book. Seeing that it might take a diferent direction. Thought Goblet of Fire was the best yet, although I wish they would of stayed with that director. (Reply to this) |

![]() on Apr 08 2006 06:35 AM The Harry Potter Movies [in general] I absolutely love the Harry Potter movies, in fact, I am a big fan. Though I do agree with the people who get frustrated with the movies not pointing out the important parts... but I also believe that the movies are tastefully done. I love the books just as much, if not more than the movies, but the movies are a great break from reading, and I enjoy pointing out things that are missing, or wrongly done in the movie. ![]() on Apr 08 2006 01:47 PM In reply to this comment (#833412) Like the others haven't been? I think HP5 will translate the worst of any into a movie. It's straightforward and dull -- JKR has fallen into the trap in books 5 & 6 of spending 80 -90% of the pages on build-up. The pay off is exciting enough -- a bit too predictable -- HP5, in particular, has more pacing problems that the movie will have to fix. That being said, looking forward to HP7... She twisted HP6 nicely at the very end(and unexpectedly -- go JK) by putting HP out in the wild. Now that should be fun. (Reply to this) |

on Apr 08 2006 02:46 PM At least they were smart enough not to put it the day b4 the book was released. Opening day/weekend would be a record low because people would be waiting in line/ reading the final book instead of seeing the movie. (Reply to this) |

on Apr 08 2006 04:42 PM The 4th BOOK was my favorite (thus far) but I still prefer Prisioner of Azkaban when it comes to the movies. In OotP Harry was almost too annoyingly whinney to me (even if he is a "teenager with wild hormones" as many of you say), so I dunno we'll have to see how that translates on screen. I would say OotP should be better on screen than Goblet but at the same time OotP is even bigger than Goblet in length so who knows. I didn't know Book 7 was coming out at the same time as the 5th movie, so that will surely be a Potter-crazed week. It'll taper off though, I don't think the Half-Blood Prince movie will be all that great just because it just felt like such a prelude to Book 7, but if numero 7 is brilliant I think movie 7 could be the most successful of the lot and make Book/Movie 6 better in the process; kinda like what Sith did to Menace and Clones..but alright, I guess that is all, good day. on Apr 08 2006 09:07 PM In reply to this comment (#833421) Clarification What I mean by straightforward is book 5 does not have as many random plotlines happening. Book 4 had so many subplots that they could not translate them all to a movie...book 5 stays a pretty straight course, should be easier to write a screenplay without cutting anything major. I have enjoyed all the books, but book 4 was my least favorite of the series...I was surprised that the movie worked so well. I am glad the movies have cut out the S.P.E.W. story...it's ok in the book, but I don't think it would have worked well in the movies. (Reply to this) |
![]() on Apr 08 2006 10:58 PM YAY that is soo awesome that is gonna be like one of the best weeks of my life...lol...but yeah its really neat the 7th book comes out 7-7-07, thats just too neat lol...but yeah i love the 5th and 6th books they are the best to me, and I think they will be great on screen! only a year a 3 months to go! on Apr 09 2006 11:34 AM I thought the 4th book and the movie are the best of the series. So there's almost no way the 5th movie with sadly a diferent director can be as good. The 5th book was mildly disapointing to me and the 6th was really disapointing to me, so hopefully the 7th will be good and not a let down. I am definitely looking forward to the 5th movie though and I am happy to hear that Kloves will be back for the 6th because I think he's done a good job. (Reply to this) |

![]() on Apr 11 2006 08:54 AM In reply to this comment (#833411) Time Considering the amount of time to read any Potter book, one can simply squeeze it in between any larger and more complicated reading. 4 days tops to read the longest of the Potter series. Also, in answer to some posts about favorite book/movie. Fav book is Azkaban, followed by 5, 6, 4, 1, 2. That said, what makes the books good for me is what makes the movies not as good. There were several great things in azkaban that were simply cut or altered for movie purposes that completely wrecked the original intention of what's in the book. Goblet, while good, greatly altered Dumbledore's demeanor, left out great lines "Bow to death Harry", and had the most confusing beginning to a movie (except for the very well done dream sequence). Chamber had some very exaggerated acting from the kids. The only potter movie that really "got it right" was the first one, because it brought the world of Harry Potter to life. Re-watch all four movies, and its clear that Sorcerer's is still the best movie, while azkaban, or later books are the best books. (Reply to this) |

on Apr 11 2006 11:47 AM Why is the WB retarded? There was way too much information in Goblet to be contained in one movie. You are guaranteed to make $200+ million on the movie. Why not break it into 2 movies like Kill Bill. Film them together, release them about 6 weeks apart, not 5 or 6 months like Kill Bill. You would essentially double your profit. Even if you only made $180 million a piece, that is more than $270ish were they seem to dwindle and die. The dvd could be released as one big 2 or 3 disc set. Kids would eat it up. (Reply to this) |
