Comic-Con 2006: "Iron Man" Villain, Armor Design, and Plot Details
by Senh Duong | July 23, 2006
Discuss Article
...Talking about the feel of the armor, Favreau stated, "There is a sort of Robocop-like quality this character could have; I like the weight and mass and power," adding that this Iron Man would never be about martial arts "Power Rangers" moves, and instead all about heavy metal and heavy weapons.

...Favreau described the storyline as a combination of James Bond and a Tom Clancy novel, deeply embroiled in the geopolitical issues of our time. Since he sees the project as a number of films, he has opted to incorporate the "demon in a bottle" alcoholism storyline in future films after the character has been introduced and developed.

...Finally, Favreau revealed that the villain that Iron Man will face in the film is the Mandarin. He also hinted that he might reprise his Daredevil role of lawyer Foggy Nelson for this film. The movie will be the first released by the newly-formed Marvel Studios, and it is set to hit theaters in May, 2008. Stay tuned to IGN FilmForce for more updates on this and other Marvel films.

I care. Iron Man rocks, and the movie could be good.

Mandarin and not his dad? Good. The plot that killed Hulk is gone.

Now just get Johnny Depp on board as Tony Stark and I'll be there on premiere day.

Well this looks like it might not suck so much after all. Now I just need to see who's gonna play Iron Man. Johnny Depp or Tom Cruse.

I think Ryan Gosling could do the part justice.

why not heath ledger? he apparently sucked somebody off to convince them he'd make a good joker.
if there is any validity to that rumor >shudder<

as for iron man: i hope they keep this open. seriously, a strong actor should NOT be ruled out cause of his skin color. i'd like them to role war machine and tony into one.

Ryan Gosling? Are you on on CRACK? We don't need a pretty boy wannabe actor. Ledger is OK, Depp would be nice, but good luck reeling them in. I also heard Leo was being discussed, but why would he or Depp troll in this role? I like the Superman approach: unknown lead, famous (over)actor villain.

I think Iron Man should be played by a lesbian.

I don't know, I think with a lesser known superhero like Iron Man, maybe casting a well known for the lead isn't a bad idea. Could bring instant credibility to the role. I've always kind of liked the idea of Tom Cruise, but Cruise and credibility don't really go together...
