Faced with a drought that endangers the continuity of their people, the elders are convinced that they have been cursed by the Red God -- the God of Vengeance. Following the death of the war chief, a group of adolescents must now cross over to adulthood, forced to quickly form a new generation of inexperienced but brave warriors. The adolescents must bring back the mane of a legendary lion, which appears at every critical period of the Masai history to appease the wrath of the God and bring back the rains. The survival of their culture depends on this quest. -- © ArtMattan Productions [More]

I quite enjoyed this "Lord of the Rings" style Masai adventure tale. It's in spoken Masai, subtitled in English. Authentic and warm. Full Review |

The earnest minimalism of Masai makes it an unusual moviegoing experience. Full Review |

A mythic quest ought to be more than pretty. It ought to stir ancient memories. Full Review |

Set in the highlands of Kenya, a timeless place untouched by modernity, Masai: The Rain Warriors, is the debut fictional film of Pascal Plisson, a devoted nature documentarian.

A story of initiation, friendship, teamwork and sacrifice set on the vast ochre savannah of Kenya, Masai: The Rain Warriors builds slowly -- very slowly -- to a powerful and touching finale. Full Review |

Good-hearted but dull and a slave to its director's outsider-looking-in bias. Full Review |
