In Other News...Mel Gibson Cares
Following a high-casualty storm season in South America, actor-director Mel Gibson has donated $1 million to relief efforts in Mexico where he is preparing to film his upcoming project, "Apocalypto." The Australian-raised actor-cum-director met Wednesday with Mexican President Vicente Fox, and appears to be the first prominent Hollywood celeb to make a public contribution to hurricane relief outside the U.S. (He also appears to have spent the last few years growing a mean set of whiskers.) Gibson is set to begin production next month in the Mexican state of Veracruz; his super-retro project is set some 3,000 years in the past and, as in his uber-successful Jesus flick "The Passion of the Christ," it will be filmed completely in an ancient lost language. How do you say 'box-office' in Mayan?
