Bruce Campbell Warns Raimi About Tricksy Hobbits
Direct smart, Campbell says.
Bruce Campbell
knows he's always got a role in a
Sam Raimi
movie, but if the director indeed takes on
The Hobbit
for New Line, longtime friend Campbell has some words of warning.
"Well, I hope they pay Sam his overages like they didn't pay Peter Jackson," Campbell said. "Hey, if they ain't paying Peter Jackson overages, I'd be very afraid, but that's me."
Campbell seemed surprised to hear the news that Raimi was in the running. He hadn't heard that even New Line head Bob Shaye is after him. He did have some thoughts on Shaye though. "Bob Shaye-dy? New Lies Cinema? Yeah, these are the guys who distributed the first Evil Dead, don't forget. So, you know, enough said there."
Were all the politics to be worked out, Campbell did consider a Hobbit cameo as "hopefully someone that torments the hobbit. Hopefully someone who's not the hobbit."

on Aug 21 2007 02:37 PM Beorn, yes. Good call. Although they'd probably cut out his character much like Tom Bombadil in LOTR. (Reply to this) |

on Aug 21 2007 03:50 PM I still say Terry Gilliam, or maybe even Guirrermo Del Toro should direct this. I love Raimi, but I don't think he can make this movie feel "magical". (Reply to this) |

on Aug 21 2007 07:38 PM Sam Raimi isn't right for this movie. His style isn't right for it. And by his rules he would have to give Bruce a cameo and those cameos usually just evoke laughs even if his character is serious and that just wouldn't be right. There needs to be a continuity between this and LOTR which Raimi couldnt bring. And Beorn is more essential to the plot of the Hobbit than Bombacil was in LOTR so they'll probably keep him. on Aug 21 2007 07:45 PM If by "tarnished area" you mean the entirety of the series so far, well, the job's done. Not even Rami's ham-fisted approach could further destroy the smoldering ruin of a trilogy that the paucity of Jackson's vision has wrought. He%u2019d simply be kicking a dead horse. ![]() on Aug 21 2007 08:37 PM Wasn't Jackson back in the running as it was announced just the other day? It would be much cheaper, less time consuming, and far BETTER if Jackson helms the production again... he knows how to make this movie like the back of his hand, and if Shaye is so worried about money then using Jackson again, as opposed to Raimi (who's style does not suit the material!) would be the way to go. on Aug 21 2007 09:11 PM I agree that Raimi doesn't seem like a fit... Besides, how would he get his car in the pic? That ol' girl is about as trusty a cameo as Campbell :) (Reply to this) |

on Aug 21 2007 09:15 PM Did anybody here know there was actually a musical play about "The Hobbit"? Ah, yes... "Thirteen mighty dwarves/Brave and Strong and true/Marching, marching on/With just one goal in view/To slay the dragon, the awful dragon Smaug..." Yeah, junior high good times there...Got to play one of the drunken elves :) (Reply to this) |

on Aug 21 2007 09:38 PM I love Jackson and Raimi but I still would like to see a new director. even a woman director like the person who did Strange Days. (Reply to this) |
