It's an entertaining movie, which is half the game, but it's not scary, which it should be. Neither is it something to be taken seriously, though it's intended to be.
who siad it had to be scary... no one. I disagree with you on saying it's supposed to be serious becasue he makes it serious more of the time but he also has those funny parts in there no probelm to laugh while seeing a movie.

I completely agree with Thad. All of the critics continue to demand that The Happening had to fall under a certain genre (scary, suspense, serious etc) but it dosent. Just like any M. Night movie, he throws in a bit of humor, to break up the constant suspense. No one says it has to be serious, but what it is is thought provoking in terms of the environment, love, relationships and much more. And for critics not to see that is sad because it only shows how shallow their expectations are and how easily they can be entertained by having movies with definitive endings and specific genres, rather than a movie thats provokes thought and conversation.

I agree I would much rather see a movie that actually has a plot versus some movie that has nothing but gore.
