Convincing period detail provides scant consolation in a histrionic pot-boiler that is as entertaining as a sermon and as thrilling as tea with the vicar. It will be a miracle indeed if anyone goes to see it.

Reviews for Middletown
Devolves into a simplistic good-vs-evil thriller, but strong performances keep it interesting.
It errs on the side of caution, never delving beyond the two-dimensional as Macfadyen’s steely-eyed bogeyman delivers one Bible-bashing speech after another.
It’s interesting to see a film about religion in Ireland that doesn’t also feature terrorism or sectarianism.
