New Pictures of Will Smith as Hancock
Superheroes of the world ain't nothin' but trouble.
You've seen the trailer -- now you can get a look at Will Smith in full-on Hancock garb, thanks to a pair of new stills released by Sony!
The Peter Berg-directed adventure, arriving in theaters July 2, focuses on the exploits of its titular ne'er-do-well superhero. From the official synopsis:
There are heroes... there are superheroes... and then there's Hancock (Will Smith). With great power comes great responsibility -- everyone knows that -- everyone, that is, but Hancock. Edgy, conflicted, sarcastic, and misunderstood, Hancock's well-intentioned heroics might get the job done and save countless lives, but always seem to leave jaw-dropping damage in their wake. The public has finally had enough -- as grateful as they are to have their local hero, the good citizens of Los Angeles are wondering what they ever did to deserve this guy. Hancock isn't the kind of man who cares what other people think -- until the day that he saves the life of PR executive Ray Embrey (Jason Bateman), and the sardonic superhero begins to realize that he may have a vulnerable side after all. Facing that will be Hancock's greatest challenge yet -- and a task that may prove impossible as Ray's wife, Mary (Charlize Theron), insists that he's a lost cause.
Got all that? Good. Now get a load of Smith in what appears to be his uniform:

What do you think, RTers? Are you getting more excited to see Hancock, or are you starting to think it'll wind up languishing in the lower reaches of your Netflix queue?

on Jan 29 2008 06:32 AM Sounds like a decent concept with a great cast. I like how lately Will Smith has been playing against his "Big Willie" persona lately. (Reply to this) |

on Jan 29 2008 06:50 AM Looks like a recycled X-Men outfit. Regardless, looks like a fun movie. Should tide me over till Dark Knight. (Reply to this) |

on Jan 29 2008 07:02 AM 'Put Will Smith in it, and they will come' The commercial was actually pretty funny, and it is REALLY hard not to like the guy. The suit? whatever. As long as it serves its purpose in the movie. (Reply to this) |

on Jan 29 2008 07:43 AM They must've coloured big willie's hair, he was looking awefully grey in I Am Legend. Not that that's a bad thing.. going grey would've been a nice touch for a failed super. I wonder if the movie will have other supers in it a la The Incredibles. (Reply to this) |

on Jan 29 2008 08:39 AM I read the first draft's review in Latinoreview.com. Typical Hollywood moral fable. Given the fact that Mr Smith is in there, it can only be worse than that draft, so I'm definitely not looking forward to this movie. Will Smith: "I, robot", "I am legend"... oh my, so many good stories turned into crap due to a star's ego and some executives bull****. (Reply to this) |

on Jan 29 2008 09:32 AM Sounds like a bizarre redemption story. Smith was the only good thing in I Am Legend, so if he and Bateman can do something with this script and the movie doesn't overdose on CGI it might turn out to be something decent. (Reply to this) |
![]() on Jan 29 2008 09:40 AM I think this could be funny, boy isn't July packed this year- The Dark Knight, Hellboy 2, and X Filles 2. (Reply to this) |
![]() on Jan 29 2008 09:50 AM Isnt that just Will Smith as ... Will Smith (again!) but this time hes stole wolverines jacket. Hmm, after I am legend bull**** I will wait for rental if at all for this film. I like the idea of the story though, but worryingly it has some similar elements to a graphic novel i am currently writing. Might have to see this film to first incase i need to make some changes. I am getting a lil bored with the smith though. (Reply to this) |
![]() on Jan 29 2008 09:56 AM In reply to this comment (#1536608) "I, Robot", "I Am Legend"...OK stories turned into good movies BECAUSE of Will Smith. The guy's got screen presence and charisma to spare. Whatever the outcome, if this is bad, it won't be because of casting. (Reply to this) |

on Jan 29 2008 09:59 AM In reply to this comment (#1536971) Yep. July is set to be quite a month. Can't come fast enough. We'll have Iron Man in May to tide us over until then. And then Hancock, which can't be nearly as bad as some are making it out to be. I agree with rsav, Smith was the best thing about I am Legend. Which, in fact, is what makes it such a tragedy of a film. Could have been an awesome actor cast in a great story... Too bad they left Matheson's story on the cutting room floor. (Reply to this) |

on Jan 29 2008 11:34 AM yeah lately Will Smith was in some good movies and the not so good movies were only watchable coz of him but i dont hink this is his Fresh Prince role. but a more negative and rusty. i guess in the very last scene he'll act like the Fresh Prince. (Reply to this) |
![]() on Jan 29 2008 11:57 AM yeah dude i thought i am legend would had been barley watchable had will smith not acted his *** off the movie woulda blew ***, i robot was good becauce will smith was in it he is a very likable guy and tends to elevate the story and when that story is good throw in will smith and it will become better throw in a ****ty story and its atleast watchable because of him (Reply to this) |

on Jan 29 2008 01:10 PM Hancock is a terrible name for a movie and a superhero, but it looks pretty entertaining. Looking forward to another good performance by Will Smith. (Reply to this) |
