Not as bloody as 'Hotel 2,' but because we know that the horrific events really happened, 'The Girl Next Door' is at least as scary.

A super-realistic horror flick that's so relentlessly-disturbing it's likely to trigger debate as to whether the filmmaker might have left too little to the imagination.

The film is stuck with an utterly quotidian screenplay that never truly provokes the viewer.

Much more than just your basic sadistic horror thriller, The Girl Next Door redefines the notion of guilty pleasure as raw and potent allegory, and corrective to the US culture of conformist collective complicity.

It's a dark, harsh and sometimes powerfully unpleasant film, but it's also one that's made with a lot of care and craftsmanship.
