Marvel Already Casting for Thor?
Alas, still no casting call for Ant-Man.
Apparently, when Marvel chairman David Maisel said his studio planned to use its interim deal with the WGA to reopen development on its strike-delayed properties, he wasn't fooling around.
Mere days after the Marvel-WGA agreement was inked, SuperheroHype is reporting (via Auditions-Auditions) "what may or may not be an official casting call for Thor extras." As you can see if you check out the link below, it may very well not be official -- but if it isn't, someone else appears to be making a movie, titled Thor, following "partially disabled medical student Dr. Donald Blake" as he "discovers his heretofore unknown alter ego, the Norse warrior, Thor."
The submission deadline is March 9, so act quickly, New York-area RT faithful -- whoever's putting together this Thor feature is looking for "all genders, races, and looks" to fill 10 roles, "ranging from supporting to extras." Send your resume and headshot (if available) for consideration!

ElmoFromOK writes: on Jan 29 2008 06:48 AM In reply to this comment (#1536139) I would totally have agreed with you until I read the Ultimates.. First time I ever really loved thor. Now if done in that vien I think it could be a fun, full movie. (Reply to this) |

TombstoneLawDog writes: on Jan 29 2008 07:07 AM Same thing as all these movies: Get a Nolan or a Raimi (first two times, anyway), and you get Bank AND respectability. Get Corporate or greedy, and you get [sigh-- here we go again] Daredevil, Elektra, Catwoman, Xmen3, Spiderman3... (Reply to this) |

kdbarrett writes: on Jan 29 2008 07:20 AM I have to admit I'm skeptical about a Thor movie. He was one of my favorites growing up (way back in the 60's), but a credible movie? ElmoFromOK, what's different about Ultimate Thor? I haven't any of the Ultimates myself. (Reply to this) |

zgberg writes: on Jan 29 2008 07:33 AM I'll put this in the "wait and see" category...will most likely go down in the same bucket as daredevil and ghost rider. I'm still holding out that maybe it might take the Iron Man path and have a really cool trailer. (Reply to this) |

John Z. Delorean writes: on Jan 29 2008 08:46 AM Thor was one of my favorite comics but when he is grounded on Earth I'm not a fan, I prefer the cosmic tales of Thor and definitely don't believe he would appeal to a movie audience. The villians are pretty corny and Thor is himself is pretty dull. (Reply to this) |

EdwardBlake writes: on Jan 29 2008 09:06 AM Ultimate Thor was far and away the most appealing character of that series. He's an internationally recognized superstar and activist...think Bono, Dr. Phil, Noam Chomsky all rolled into one...who doesn't hide his Godhood at all. He's also arguably the single most powerful hero in the world. One interesting part is that the world, and even his fellow superheroes is divided over whether he really is a Norse God and more just a nut with a superpowered hammer. For the first full run of the series, even the reader was kept in doubt over whether he really was a God. Captain America and Iron Man are skeptical, while The Thing and the Human Torch are members of his fanclub. (Reply to this) |

JUDGE DREDD writes: on Jan 29 2008 09:42 AM Thor is a great character to bring to the screen! Not only could they do the whole Norse Viking god stuff to set up the character. But he is also the God of Thunder! This could be awsome! Shame Dolph Lundgren is past his prime he would have been perfect back in the day. So would Ahhnold, but not now. I just hope they do great casting for the role. (Reply to this) |

ManofStee1 writes: on Jan 29 2008 01:08 PM In reply to this comment (#1536468) kdbarrett, Ultimate Thor was different in that nobody believed him when he said he was a god. They thought he was insane and eventually he had to prove it by bringing in all the forces of Asgard (and just about every other hero in the Ultimate U) in to kick Loki's ***. If they made the movie based on Ultimate Thor it could be very watchable. Otherwise I'd stay far away. (Reply to this) |

kdbarrett writes: on Jan 29 2008 02:17 PM Yeah, the Ultimates stuff sounds pretty interesting. I may have to pick up the graphic novels (I assume they collected it into graphic novels). (Reply to this) |

thereign writes: on Jan 29 2008 02:34 PM I've said it before, and I'll say it again: A Thor movie could work, if the storyline is kept COMPLETELY away from Earth. It needs to be a film of epic scope, sticking primarily to Asgardian mythology...something along the lines of Lord of the Rings. If they want to make it into a trilogy, it should deal with the birth of the Gods, Loki as the primary adversary, and come full circle with Ragnarok--the death of the gods, and Thor's attempts to keep it from happening. R-rated, full-on action/violence, and no mention of Don Blake. Represent, Asgard! (Reply to this) |

minderbinder writes: on Jan 29 2008 02:59 PM I'm not really familiar with the marvel version of Thor. Buy I wonder why there haven't been more movies based on mythological characters. I guess Beowulf is sort of in that vein, but I think the freaky mocrap scared many people away. LOTR and some other fantasy projects have done well. 300 did very well. There was Troy, which didn't do well, but they completely removed all supernatural elements. Has there been a movie based on serious mythology since Clash of the Titans? (Reply to this) |
