Critic Reviews for Audition
As Froemke trails these singers through their preparations and to their final appearances, she assembles some appealing portraiture but not much drama. The mood here is far more genteel and collegial than in many a competition documentary.
However overworked the format may be, from American Idol to Miss America, there's no denying the fresh punch of a candid new documentary standing at a different end of the artistic spectrum -- The Audition.
The Audition is for anyone with an interest in voice, or in the nature of competition.
As a documentary, The Audition isn't cutting edge. As an introduction to a new generation of American opera stars and an opportunity to hear them sing, it is splendid.
