Critic Review - At the Movies

Antal is a good enough action director that some of the combat is pretty exciting.

Double D.

Double Dee

It's more like a C movie than a B movie. Ironically it had all the ingredients to be an A but alas we see Morpheus for just 10 minutes and we have too much in common with the monsters. They love dogs and we love dogs. We evidently breathe the same air and drink the same water despite their planet having other planets too close for gravity and breathable air to NOT be an issue for us humans. It's somewhat predictable and tries badly to steal some scenes from the original. The unpredictable parts are just repetitive and lack originality. For example the alliance with the original predator and humans only last as long as Fishburne's cameo. (Double bummer.) The trailer for 'Machete' and the predator dogs were the coolest things about the film. The newer, bigger, stronger and even UGLIER predators are never quite threatening enough and aren't presented to the audience in any eventful way. (like the first time the mask comes off in the original.) These new monsters have wider mouths but are just as stupid as all the others but we are led to believe that they have evolved into more efficient killing machines. Why engage in a sword fight when you possess the most efficient weapons in the universe?
I left the movie feeling like I had just regretably banged a fat ugly chick. Nimrod and Rodriguez had the nerve to leave a huge door open for yet another sequel! I loved the original Predator movie, Armored and Desperado but this film was just bland and unsatisfying.

The sword fight between the predator and the yakuza was set up brilliantly but the actual fight itself was disappointing and underwhelming to say the least so I can't say he is good at directing action scenes when that scene didn't deliver in the end.
