An excellent film noir about boxing, of all things! But like a good film noir, it exposes the seedy underside of life and features tragic characters. The cinematography, the characterization, and the plot are fantastic, nearly bringing tears to your eyes. It is a bit slow in the beginning, but by the end you're almost holding your breath as the taut conclusion unfurls. I will say this -- it is one of the few movies of this genre that ends well, and ends well without being contrived. Symbolic, deep, and passionate. Again, excellent.
