"Christmas Story" Director Bob Clark Dies In Crash
by RT Staff | April 04, 2007
Discuss Article
Bob Clark, director of "A Christmas Story," "Porky's," and many other works in a career that spanned four decades died in a car crash early this morning in Los Angeles.

The LA Times reports that Clark was driving along the Pacific Coast Highway in Pacific Palisades when he was hit head-on by a drunk driver at 2:20am. Clark's 22 year-old son Ariel was also in the car and died.

Clark was a prolific filmmaker whose works spanned four decades; he wrote, produced, and directed films from a wide variety of genres, including "Porky's" (1982), "A Christmas Story" (1983), the Dolly Parton-Sylvester Stallone comedy "Rhinestone" (1984), and the more recent "Baby Geniuses" (1999) and "SuperBabies: Baby Geniuses 2" (2004).

Though his more recent projects tended towards family-oriented comedy and drama, Clark started out in the 1960s and '70s making independent and horror films like the transvestite dramedy "She-Man" (1967), "Children Shouldn't Play With Dead Things" (1972), zombie pic "Deathdream" (1974), and the original "Black Christmas" (1974).

Clark had several projects in the works, including a remake of his "Children Shouldn't Play With Dead Things," the spring break-themed comedy "Spring Broke," and the dark comedy "There Goes the Neighborhood."

Clark was 67.

The worst part about this news is that Bob Clark never got to make another movie on the level of A Christmas Story and that his last film was Baby Geniuses 2.

Lived, and reportedly sustained only minor injuries, which often seems to be the case with the drunkards involved in car wrecks fatal to those in the other vehicle.

Death penalty for all drunk drivers should be the law. If it was my family member that was killed, that fucker would be dead soon.

Have you noticed that most of the time the kind of people who like to get drunk and kill people in their cars just happen to choose the largest most inbred red-neck 4x4 SUV they can get their hands on?
Over here (Australia) he would be back on the road in six months. I hope he gets his ass so badly porked in prison!

Interesting. Many news organizations "forgot" to mention that this drunk driver was 3X over California alcohol limit at time of the loss and he was an illegal Mexican alien who has had prior arrests yet was never deported. Hmm....gotta love the santuary city policies everywhere in the U.S.

It is sad. Everytime now that I watch "A Christmas Story" during the Christmas season, this incident will come to mind.

Bob's the Man
I did a film with Bob and hoped to do more. He was a very kind and gentle man who didn't deserve such a tragic end, nor did his son. His humor and infectious smile spread through the crew and made each day on set something to look forward to. RIP, Bob. You were a kind and loyal man! Thank you for the time we shared.
Brian
