To be sure, Robert De Niro turns in another virtuoso performance for Martin Scorsese, just as in their four previous efforts. But once again -- and even more so -- they come up with a character that it's hard to spend time with.

I'm going to side with the dissenters this time. I can see where it might be perceived as a dark comedy, but that label doesn't absolve it from an overarching sense that Scorsese didn't push this one far enough.

Neither funny enough to be an effective black comedy nor scary enough to capitalise on its thriller/horror elements.

The King of Comedy fancies itself a scathing social satire about the lust for celebrity carried to extremes. But ultimately, director Martin Scorsese's movie is a severely misconceived and distasteful study of delusional behavior.

It is frustrating to watch, unpleasant to remember, and, in its own way, quite effective.

Um filme que fica cada vez mais dolorosos de se ver Ó medida em que compreendemos a profundidade e a fragilidade dos personagens principais, e nos identificamos com eles.

...a little bizarre, somewhat unsettling, sometimes funny, sometimes not, but mostly on target.

Probably Martin Scorsese's most overlooked movie, this eerie parody of celebrity culture features what may be Jerry Lewis' best performance.

When compiling a top ten films of 1983, I didn't think twice about putting it at the top. It is certainly a film that grows on you.
