One day, while quietly gamboling in a glade, the pair is distracted by the appearance of trolls, minions of the evil Lord of Darkness (Tim Curry). The cloven-footed, cavern-dwelling monster, long banished to the earth's nether regions, has sent the creatures on a mission to seize the horn of a unicorn, thereby plunging the planet into a frigid darkness over which he alone will reign. Things go from bad to worse as Lili succumbs to the forces of darkness, and Jack must assemble a motley band of elves to free her from bondage and return sunlight to the earth's surface. Sumptous art direction and overwhelming special effects are once again a testament to Scott's powers of visual invention. [More]

Reviews for Legend
Ridley Scott's re-edit of Legend contains...heretofore-unseen footage and Jerry Goldsmith's regal original score, and with no pun intended, it's a fantastic film.
The movie is enchanting and has moments of magic, but it's an utter train wreck, overwhelmed by cheesy special effects, dialogue writ insanely large, and a kind of goofy plot.
Perhaps ahead of its time, certainly too ambitious for its budget and its era, Legend is nevertheless a fascinating film
Thatcher. Reagan. Flock of Seagulls. These weren't the only evil things from the 1980s. There were also Hollywood fantasy movies such as this one . . .
The cool costumes and set designs almost make it worthwhile, so long as the sound's turned down and you don't have to hear the witless dialogue
All of the special effects in the world, and all of the great makeup, and all of the great Muppet creatures can't save a movie that has no clear idea of its own mission and no joy in its own accomplishment.
