New Line to Delve in Jason's Origin Story?
by Scott Weinberg | January 30, 2006
Discuss Article
Variety did a story about Fox's creative "6/6/06" release schedule for their remake of "The Omen," and in the closing section of the piece, they dropped a little piece of news that should please the slasher fans: Apparently New Line is planning to release a "Friday the 13th" prequel on Friday, October 13th. Yes, 2006.

"New Line is hoping to release its 10th film in the sturdy "Friday the 13th" franchise on -- surprise -- Friday, Oct. 13. Studio's launched development of a script about Jason Voorhees' origins."

--

That's all the news so far, but it should come as no surprise to any horror fans, I can tell you that much.

This is actually the twelfth Jason movie. Freddy vs Jason was the 11th. Has New Line Cinema aquired the rights to the "Friday the 13th" name? I thought thats why they called the previous jason movies, Jason goes to Hell and Jason X instead of Friday the 13th part's 9 and 10.

why wont these things just die....i mean hell, way back in 1981 they had already run their course with 2 films......does the world really need more money wasted on a jason flick? Well....then again, they do spend hundreds of millions on films just as bad that bloated with effects for the summer.....so whatever. Death to Hollywood.

As long as people are stupid enough to spend their money to see them, Hollywood will continue to churn out crap like "Friday the 13th Part 58." Hell, even Stallone thinks he can get away with "Rocky 6" and "Rambo 5." I can't wait until Hollywood implodes on itself and real filmmakers start making movies again, instead of accountants.

more jason. anything to stop the horror remake machine. personally i would like to see another fri 13th where it's stupid teens at crystal lake doing the wrong thing and getting killed for it only to find out that jason can not be stopped. that would be wonderful. hell even a rematch with freddy would be awesome to me.

I agree with skletonkee. Other than tacking on a bunch of supernatural gobbledygook to the story we already know (like in the Halloween sequels), I don't know where else they can go with it at this point.

Unless, of course, they do the Batman Begins thing, and just start the whole thing over from scratch.

I personally would like to find out why he was deformed, possibly from an accident? Birth defect from his mom getting hit by a car packed with camp counselers when she was prego? Hard to say yet, but at least they'll leave the original alone or so it seems...

I kinda like the dream sequence at Crystal Lake in FVJ where jason is teased and tormented to the end of the dock. Could be a good story, maybe they can raise more questions than answers with this film and spark some new interest.(and Sequels)

We can all agree that this won't win any academy awards but I still have interest enough to pay money for anything Jason related. They're just fun to watch films that bringback my birthday party/Sleepover memories from my youth. I never walk out of a Friday the 13th movie saying "WOW that wasn't what I was expecting at all." and that's why I love em'.
