A washed-up boxer searches for answers in his life. This is Rod Serling's landmark, Emmy award winning television drama about an aging boxer whose controlling manager leads him to consider throwing fights instead of retiring. Packing a wallop, primarily as an in-depth character study, this drama is packed with real-life boxers and star power. The featured characters include Grace Miller (Kim Hunter), a stern yet gentle employment counselor, who hopes to ease the heavy weight's transition. Jack Palance is huge in both soul and stature as Mountain Rivera, and his Manager, Maish Renick (Keenan Wynn), proves to be an equal match for him. Renick is both weak and crafty which adequately bolsters our sympathies for Palance's inarticulate giant fighter. Army, tugs heartstrings as Palance's trainer, and has memorable moments trying to keep his man in the ring. Full of authenticity and atmosphere, directly with poignancy by Ralph Nelson, this is one of the most moving and awarded dramas ever made for television. [More]
