The Comeback Kid Does It Again - "Rocky Balboa" Grossed $6.4M on Wednesday
by Senh Duong | December 21, 2006
Blog Article | Discuss Article
According to Showbizdata.com, "Rocky Balboa," Sylvester Stallone's sixth and reportedly final installment of the franchise, grossed an impressive $6.4M on Wednesday. This is one of Stallone's best single day debuts of his career as the top-billed star.

Stallone was so overjoyed with the result that he wrote in to movie gossip site AintItCool.com, with which he done a series of interviews leading to the film's Wednesday debut, to thank the fans: "...we did a little over six million, which has all the financial film analysts in this country in bewilderment and awe. You made an old lion roar proud today. Thank you."

Stallone's last certifiable hit in the States as a leading star was 1994's "Cliffhanger," which grossed $84M in its entire theatrical run. With the holidays coming up, "Rocky Balboa" could reach or surpass that amount.

The budget for "Rocky Balboa," is a very modest $25M. It could easily turn a profit by the end of the coming Christmas day and become one of the unlikely commercial successes of the holidays. With a Tomatometer of 77%, "Rocky Balboa" is also Certifed Fresh and one of Stallone's better reviewed films. Stallone starred, wrote, directed, and produced "Rocky Balboa," thus resurrecting his own career with the franchise that started it.

When I first read about the possibility of a Rocky 6 something like 5 years ago I think I laughed out loud, I definitely could not have expected this kind of reception, even the trailer still made it look like a joke, now I think I'll have to check it out during the holiday season.

ROCKY, ROCKY, ROCKY, ROCKY !!!!!!!!

Screw all you losers who made fun of him for being old. At 60 years old, hes by far in better shape than all of you put together. And the movie appears to be a big success. God I can't wait to see this movie. Sly, your an inspiration.

Regardless of what people think of Celebrities looking the way they do with solid muscles and six packs.

Celebs only get to look like that because the job of an actor is to basically work out. Its like the say, actors don't get paid 20 Million to act, they get paid 20 Million to promote.

So regardless of how long it takes to film a movie, which they still work out in. On their off time, it'd be like your 9-5 job was going to the Gym and working out. They can afford the time.

NOW that being said. To look the way Sly does at 60 goes a little beyond just being able to have the time to work out. To look that way at 60 years old would take immense dedication and hard work.

I agree with the person who said they laughed when they heard about a new rocky movie back in 2000-2001. I did too. I'm so happy Sly is getting a warm reception and hope this movie does really well for him.

I mean come on, who doesn't cheer for Rocky? It is impossible not to root for Rocky.

What a pleasant and unexpected surprise Rocky Balboa turned out to be. He'll be a perfect addition to Tarrantino's Inglorious Bastards. Bring on Rambo!

please sly
I wish great success to sly on the movie, but I just hope that the man should just sign up for AARP and enjoy his retirement or work behind the scenes as a director.

rambo
I really hope his next Rambo doesnt ruin what he has going now with a great movie in Rocky Balboa. It could be great, but it could also bring him right back down to inside joke status.
