Movie Info

Set in India during World War II, this fair action drama relies heavily on the good acting talent gathered to convey its slight, uninvolved story. Gregory Peck is Col. Lewis Pugh, backed up by Roger Moore as Capt. Gavin Stewart, David Niven as Col. Bill Grice, Patrick MacNee as Major Crossley, and several others -- all retired and past the age for active duty. At issue are three German freighters that are parked in the waters off Goa, the Portuguese coastal colony on the subcontinent of India.

A workmanlike film told in a non-flashy, straightforward way, featuring an all-star cast.

Audience Reviews for The Sea Wolves

The Sea Wolves may have been based on a true story but it seems obvious to me that this is yet another case of well seasoned actors wanting to make War films that they used to back in the day. You would have thought that The Wild Geese would have been enough for director Andrew V. McLaglen, a director who like many of the actors in The Sea Wolves, was I'm sad to say, past his prime at this point. I don't want to be unkind because I didn't hate this film nor do I hate these types of film but The Sea Wolves is a carbon copy of The Wild Geese. It has the same poorly written characters; the old timer, the gay one, the funny one..etc, the same unconvincing idea that these old men can perform the impossible and the same frame for frame formulaic action sequences. All that and at no time does it seem that they even attempt to pretend this was the 1940s, something of importance when making a WW2 movie. If this was one of your Granddad's favorite films then I can only imagine he wasn't actually in the War! A great cast, utterly ridiculed.

A thrilling, enjoyable and very entertaining World War 2 adventure, that's laced with great acting, good craftsmanship, great humor and exciting action. A sharply funny and action-packed movie. A great film to watch no matter what decade its from. Gregory Peck, David Niven and Roger Moore are excellent, they have crisp and wonderful chemistry. A terrifically entertaining and wonderful movie that is just pure escapist fun from start to finish. A men on a mission classic with a bunch of old timers who clearly still got it.

Exciting adventure story..amazingly based on real events. The sound editing could have been better, though.

Was going through a box of vs. tapes I had and came across this one, so I ordered the DVD from Netflix and this film brought back many memories. Its one of the better WWII films on the market. A bunch of retired soldiers make a raid in a neutral harbor to sink 3 Nazi ships, comical and action packed. 5 Stars 9-6-12
