Weinsteins Hire a "Samurai" Screenwriter
by Scott Weinberg | June 09, 2006
Discuss Article
We've already learned that WeinsteinCo. has plans to produce a "Seven Samurai" remake, and now comes word that the brothers have hired a screenwriter for the gig -- one who's written a lot about horses, baseball, and men with guns.

From Variety: "With the Weinstein Co. effort under way to remake Akira Kurosawa's 1954 classic "The Seven Samurai," scribe John Fusco has been tapped to pen the script for the redux. "Samurai," which routinely shows up on crix lists of all-time best pics, is one of a trio of Asian classic remakes that Ziyi Zhang is in negotiations to star in for the Weinstein Co."

Films written by John Fusco include "Thunderheart," "The Babe," "Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron," "Hidalgo," and both "Young Guns" flicks.

The only way this will be good is if they put this in the hands of a great director. Spielberg could make this one awesome. However, there is no way that this could come anywhere close to the original.

I thought they already made a remake of this movie. It was called The Magnificent Seven.

What's up with Ziyi Zang only being able to get roles as a Japanese ? Aren't there any roles out there for her where she can be chinese. But yeah I agree with everyone else, the chances of this comparing to the original are little to none.
