The Texas Chainsaw Massacre doesn't try anything funny, there are no winks to the audience. And it's all the better because of it.
Shaky camera work? Nowhere in the film can I remember the camera shaking. It's a competently made film that I think is regarded as having a "documentary" feel because of the director's style, the acting and the cinematography. As for the assertion that Leatherface is a ruthless maniac that can't be reasoned with: I can't stand it when people take something that can be interpreted in so many different ways and label it one thing without taking other possibilities into consideration, such as the fact that perhaps he's retarded, and knows that if these kids stumble into his territory, they're dead. Circumstances perhaps, and not so much because he's a crazed murderer, although that's what I'm sure horror fanboys prefer to think.
