Shakespeare's tragedy, made for British television, is given a full-blooded rendition here with the great Laurence Olivier in the title role and a stellar cast to support him, in the tale of a king torn apart by the ambition and treachery within his family and by his own pride. ~ Mark Hockley, Rovi

Esta produção para a tevê americana tem péssima transferência de imagem e se beneficia apenas da tour de force de Olivier. No entanto, é longa e cansativa demais.
All the actresses are brilliant and the play is well filmed but it would all be for naught if not for Olivier's astounding performance.

This was my first real exposure to both Olivier and Shakespeare. I promptly decided that I loved both. I was about 15. I didn't know much about anything, but I knew excellence when I saw it.
