Four years after Who Framed Roger Rabbit?, Ralph Bakshi tapped into the live action mixed with cell animated world in this adult-themed production telling the story of an edgy comic book artist who crosses the line into his own cartoon universe. The story begins with a prologue in postwar Las Vegas, where Vegas cop Frank Harris (Brad Pitt) is catapulted into the cartoon Cool World after crashing his motorcycle. The Cool World is a jive-animated parallel dimension created by animator Jack Deebs

A realm with precious little humor and zero pathos, to be admired only for its considerable technical achievements.
What are the rules anyway?
A surprisingly incompetent film.
Bakshi has carved out a niche for himself directing mixes of animation and live action, but he's let down here by an unconvincing script and characters.
Hopeless.
The doodles are thoroughly repulsive and, worse, unfunny.
Even the eventual universe-shaking shag is an anti-climax, and by the time all hell rips loose just before the abysmally contrived happy ending, you're well past caring.
nice animation & design but - shudder
Critics often use the word 'incomprehensible' when referring to a poorly constructed movie, but nowhere is this assessment more accurate than in the case of Cool World.
Although director Ralph Bakshi's imagination is certainly present, Cool World is too full of itself to create any magic.
Unfortunately, the film doesn't have much else to offer beyond narrative incoherence and bad acting.
One of my favorite movies that I didn't like.
Here's hoping cartoons and noir will meet again on another, more auspicious, day.
Both the live and animated characters are equally uninteresting.
Wanted to be the next Roger Rabbit. Turned out to be a watered down 'Fritz the Cat.'
At first glance this just comes across as a more adult version of 'Roger Rabbit' and you'd be right basically. The plot is almost the same kind of thing involving a toon (they are called doodles) trying to get into the real world and then turn it into another toon world, pretty basic idea.Bakshi tries again with

I didn't expect much from this because of both the critics and audiences responses, but it was way worse than I thought. The only reason I was able to finish the movie was to see how it got worse. I like Brad Pitt but even he was enough to save the movie. I hated everything about. The concept to me is stupid. Brad Pitt
