Stallone Prepping Cliffhanger 2?
Brought to you by the Department of Things Which Cannot Possibly Be True.

Discuss Article
He's already resurrected two of his most successful film properties with Rocky Balboa and Rambo -- could Sylvester Stallone be contemplating a third?

That's the gist of a report from PR-Inside, where they're claiming that Stallone is "in negotiations" with Sony to film a sequel to 1993's Cliffhanger. Supposedly titled The Dam, the new film would find Sly reprising the role of rock climber Gabe Walker, the carabiner-wielding hero who squared off against the maniacal John Lithgow over $100 million in stolen money. Or something. We don't really remember, exactly; we only know that Janine Turner was involved, and that was not a bad thing.

Cliffhanger took home a respectable 77 percent on the Tomatometer, but the number of people looking for a sequel at this point have to number in the low teens; the most common reaction to the project, should it come to pass, will likely be along the lines of Slashfilm's succinctly negative "this is a bad move." Then again, Stallone has demonstrated an ability to make even the silliest-sounding sequel worth watching, so who knows?

If this is Stallone's M.O. right now, the only movie he should make a sequel to is COPLAND. That was good. What about a sequel to Daylight, call it Nightlight...tag line: Are YOU afraid of the dark?

Oh, I got it JUDGE DREDD 2.

Okay, freaked out yet?

I'm hoping they can resurrect the Tango and Cash franchise myself. Stallone is the king of witty banter.

He should do a Cliffhanger/Descent crossover. Have him go into the cave with all the monsters in an effort to save that last chick. Then he can get his Daylight on and get them out of there.

I enjoyed Stallone's closures to Rocky and Rambo, but another Cliffhanger movie?! Come on, you've got to be kidding! I'd rather see Judge Dredd 2 or another Demolition Man.

Noooo, Judge Dredd and Stallone should stay far apart. Dredd is supposed to be Dredd, not a Stallone vehicle. Stallone, do whatever you like with your Cliffhanger, Over The Top, Cobra, etc. But please... stay... away... from... the judge.

Cliffhanger was alright, not sequel worthy. Demolition Man.. Now thats a film I would like to see a sequel to. How about a sequal to Don't Shoot, My Moms Got a Gun!?

I hear Renny Harlin is looking for work...

FYI- He directed the first one and generally has a rep for directing action schlock, e.g., 'The Long Kiss Goodnight' and 'Cutthroat Island'

Oh, c'mon guys! How could you forget about probably the most long awaited sequel from Stallone....'Stop or My Mom Will Shoot 2'

Except this time his mom will be so old that she'll be in a wheel chair and she'll have AR-15s mounted on the sides.

since everybody else mentioned it...i'll say it as well, Dredd is probably next. i can just see it now, written and directed by Sandler...starring Rob Schneider and Stallone.

i loved Demolition man but...i'm pretty sure Snipes is having some legal troubles right now, so good luck with that. i could see them doing a prequel though...

As long as Stallone or the actual movie do not itself seriously it might work. The thing I have been impressed with his new Rocky and Rambo movies is that they stuck with what made the franchises popular in the first place, and they were both good if you're a fan of either or both of the franchises. To be honest I didn't think Stallone could pull off Rocky at his age. Therefore, I'm going to with hold judgement on Cliffhanger 2 until I read a synopis, see some pics, and of course view a trailer or two.

I would like to see him re-make Death Wish. I thought that was his next project (I'd rather see that than another Cliffhanger, though the first was good and is still watchable).

why not just make it a seperate action film and have Sly direct? I don't want to watch a 63 year old (by the time this gets made, if it get the greenlight) rock climber. Jesus, man. Just move behind the camera already.
