A musical set in the early 1900s, CALENDAR GIRL stars William Marshall as composer Johnny Bennett and artist James Ellison as Steve Adams. They arrive together at a boardinghouse in Greenwich village owned by Lulu Varden (Irene Rich), in time to meet Patricia O'Neil (Jane Frazee) the daughter of Lulu's boyfriend, fire chief Matthew O'Neil (Victor McLaglen), coming out the door. That night, they all attend a party at Lulu's apartment, where the Lulu introduces Johnny to Dillingworth (Franklin Pangborn), an influential composer, who agrees to look at Johnny's new score when it's finished. Steve asks Patricia to pose for a painting he's wants to enter in a calendar. She agrees and Steve goes to work, while Johnny and poet Byron Jones (Kenny Baker) work on their score. When Johnny shows the score to Dillingworth, he likes it enough to buy it. After winning the first prize in the contest, Steve asks Patricia to join him at the Swiss Gardens, but has to quickly change his plans when his girlfriend Olivia Radford (Gail Patrick) arrives in New York.
