Gladys George plays Jacqueline Fleuriot, a diplomat's wife who, driven by boredom, enters into an extramarital affair with a wealthy playboy. When the playboy is killed before her eyes, Fleuriot appeals to her mother-in-law for help. The bitter older woman convinces her to stage her own death in order to spare her husband and child the tragedy of having their reputations besmirched by public knowledge of her brief affair. Fleuriot follows this poor advice and, confronted with anonymity, heads into a destitute life that leads to prostitution and murder. The capable direction of Sam Wood helps make this 10-handkerchief picture believable. [More]
