Critic Review - Filmcritic.com

Just a good guy, a bad guy, and a clean-cut ending that leaves you shrugging the whole thing off.

I don't usually use profanity when retorting to ignorant bastards like yourself, but you leave me little choice: F*** you, f*** you, f*** you. So f***-a-doodle-doo, f***er.

Just watched it for the first time. I thought it was really suspenseful and well paced. Some of these old 'classics' often date badly, but not this one.

Wish I could read the full review because I somewhat agree with this comment. I like the movie, but remember being extremely disappointed that Kane had lived in the end. It seemed like a cop out when the movie spends most of its time building suspense not towards a showdown of uncertain outcome, but towards Kane's inevitable doom. I mean, at no point in the movie did Kane or any of the townspeople have any illusions that he might survive. Everyone knew he was walking into certain death. Having him defeat the outlaws was very Hollywood, and I must admit that it does make you shrug off a lot of that tension acquired over the preceding 90 minutes.
