Robert Rodriguez Directing the "Jetsons" Movie?
by Scott Weinberg | May 09, 2007
Discuss Article
I've always wondered how "The Flintstones" was profitable enough to spawn a sequel, yet nobody ever got off their butt to make a movie out of "The Jetsons." Well, it looks like someone finally is.

And according to one source, it looks like fanboy-favorite filmmaker Robert Rodriguez is on board to direct "The Jetsons" for Warner Bros. That's all the information we have so far, and it's far from being "officially" confirmed, but that would make for one strange movie, wouldn't it?

I grew up on "The Jetsons" and of course I adore the guy who gave me "Sin City," "From Dusk Till Dawn," and "Grindhouse," but it still seems like a really strange match. Then again ... "Spy Kids," right.

And if they don't get William H. Macy to play George Jetson, I'll blow my top.

They need to get Danny DeVito to play Mr. Spacely. That would be awesome! My dog's name is Astro by the way!!!!!

I hope they don't make the characters have the same hairstyles, clothes, etc. I know I sound like I want the movie to be different from the tv series, though its just that I don't want to see it turn out like The Flinstones Movie.

Wow, I'm definitely interested in how this turns out. And yeah Macy would be a great choice. Hopefully not Carrey, who I love, I just don't see him in this.

Those characters have too much depth for Rodriguez to handle.

I really wanna see William H Macy as george. Nicole Kidman would be great as the wife, Christina Applegate might be too old, but she'd be good for the daughter.... The son might be... Andy Millionakis. I dont know. As long as the robot ISNT Rosie O Donnel, I think I'll be ok to watch it.

Let's not go there
I liked the cartoon when it first came out despite the poor animation of Hanna Barbera. HB was a great filler (for children only) during the dark ages of animation when Disney abandoned their animation dept. in what was already a pattern of doing the wrong thing at ever turn. However as I got older (12 yrs. old) it became to childish for me. I think most of it's appeal was the future it painted. But do we really need this? There are you guys who will insist "they be true to their source". Why? If they go down that road and copy the cartoon it will be another Flintstone disaster.
I've had enough of recycling garbage of "the good old days". Do we really want to keep searching for more Scooby Doo's? I don't. Let the dead lie for Christ's sake. Most of these retro tv to big screen movies work out poorly, not all but most and certainly anything Hanna Barbera needs to be left alone.

actually doing jetsons the same as the cartoon, with the future that people imagined back then, could be cool if they do it right. The Incredibles for instance were supposed to live in the year 2005 as imagined by the people of the 50's or so it said on the dvd and that was an excellent world I thought for their adventure to take place in.

why in god's name are they doing this? this movie can only end badly, especially if they are going to dye the actor who plays george's hair red. i never liked the jetsons much as a kid, as i couldnt relate to the over-worked clumsy father main character. besides, has anyone actually seen spy kids? it is beyond me why RR keeps putting out craptastic family movies when he could be making awesome adult entertainment... they actually offered him the superman reboot, but he turned it down because he said he didnt want his superman "on every kid's underwear" (or something to that effect)... but now he goes and does more kid stuff?

If this is true it's a bad idea, no movie that i can think of has worked when it comes to bringing animation to live action. Family films are not RR's thing, he should stick to the ultra violent adult films he does so well. If RR does make this then I hope QT won't go the same way, obviously QT wouldn't make a family film but you do wonder what it would be like if he did.

I love William H Macey but I sure don't see him as George Jetson. My first choice would be Tim Allen but I think Jeff Foxworthy could do it. More important though is Mr. Spacely. No one could do that role justice like Danny Devito!
