That's because Jack's wife, Mabel--the luminous Lillian Hall Davis--has fallen for Bob. A love triangle develops, as do the boxers' respective careers, and Mabel eventually leaves Jack for Bob, replacing Jack's wedding ring with a snake bracelet that Bob gives her. But when the two men fight each other for the championship, Bob begins beating Jack to a pulp, prompting Mabel's sympathy for her ex-husband--and possibly a change of heart. A classic British silent film, THE RING was Hitchcock's first original screenplay and his first film for British International Pictures. [More]

Reviews for The Ring
Given the limitations placed on directors by silent movies, Hitchcock achieves an enviable amount of nuance.
