Street Fighter Cast Adds Michael Clarke Duncan, Chris Klein, Others
Jean-Claude Van Damme waits patiently for his invitation.

Remember last December, when we talked about ComingSoon's report that Kristin Kreuk would be playing Chun-Li in the new Street Fighter movie? Well, they were right -- and Kristin just got company.

Variety reports that Michael Clarke Duncan, Chris Klein, Rick Yune, Moon Bloodgood (NBC's dearly departed Journeyman), Taboo from the Black Eyed Peas, Edmund Chen, and Cheng Pei Pei have joined Kreuk in the 20th Century Fox production, set to begin filming next month. From the article:

Kreuk, who plays Lana Lang in the CW's "Smallville," will star as martial artist Chun-Li. Duncan will play Balrog, while Klein is stepping into the role of Nash. Yune is taking on the mystical Gen...Andrzej Bartkowiak ("Romeo Must Die," "Exit Wounds") is directing from a script penned by "Voltron" scribe Justin Marks. Hong Kong fight choreographer Dion Lam ("The Matrix") is handling the extreme fight sequences.

Although Variety notes that the movie's "plot" is being "kept under wraps," it's apparently clear that the latest Street Fighter will focus on Chun-Li. Producers are still searching for the right actor to play the movie's villain, Bison (Raul Julia is, sadly, unavailable).

Oh it's already messed. Chris Klein? Where's Eric Roberts? I fear this will be DOA without the eye candy.

Javier Bardem should play the role of Bison.

oooh...Javier Bardem as Bison would be cool. But please, let's not ruin his Hollywood career so early.

What about Brakus (Ralf Moeller) from Best of the Best 2 or Steven Seagal ;-) ?

I hope there's like ridiculous sex scenes in this one being that its based around chun li. This will hold me down until the Dragon ball z movie comes out.

I can see this thing working for some strange reason.. I mean look at it, they have the perfect example of how NOT to do a Street Fighter movie, so the people behind this latest installment should at least have a heads-up about how to handle this.. sort of.

And yet they still managed to completrly screw a very simple story and made it about side characters. I'm so dissapointed. Is it really that hard to do a little research on the movie you are writing a sscript for. Any idiot could figure out it's about Ryu and Ken. Everyone else is small fries. And Bison isn't as big a bad guy as Akuma. Thats the story they should tell. Too bad this train wreck is already at full speed ahead.

Let's all pray that Chris Klein's character gets knocked off pretty early, perhaps Justin Marks could write in a scene with Chun Li chopping him in half with the flaming sword, then say:

"Defender of Good Acting"

chun li has a most dramatic back story than R and K. That's why, I think, it works better in a movie. Still, I hope they kept them in this one too.

in the US Balrog is black, he's the Mike Tyson character. I agree that this really should be about Ryu and Ken, maybe Akuma kills Gouken their master and then they enter the tournament to track down Akuma and avenge Gouken. What more do you need (besides $20 million in CGI fireballs)?

The first Street Fighter was literally the worst movie I have ever seen and probably will ever see (though it's a virtual tie with Mortal Kombat II *shudders*). I have never been so mad after watching a movie. I literally felt like someone just stole my wallet. This movie will have to win the Academy Award for me to see it even on video. The first one burned me so bad, I will never waste another second of my life on a Street Fighter movie.

I f#cking LOVE that;

'the "plot" is being "kept under wraps"

seriously. That is easily the funniest thing I've read, this week. And I worried about RT staff having a sense of humor...
