Whitney Willaims
Film at 145 minutes is far over-length, and should be tightened extensively, particularly in first half. [More]

...but he is absolutely right that the movie is too long, probably by about 1/2 an hour.

All the critics in the world aren't going to convince me that I need to spend 3 mins watching 5 men passing a whiskey bottle around and then laughing about it!

Gotta agree. There is tons of stuff that could be cut out without hurting the movie. And the editing during the slow-motion is a bit overdone.

I'm not sure I would necessarily give it a rotten rating for that, though.

Peckinpah doesn't make movies in the fashion of other, faster-paced directors like Leone. He creates a unique atmosphere through visual observation and dialogue-based interaction between the characters. It works for some but not for others, personally I'm even happier with the director's cut.

to think that this movie is too long is a travesy... the picture has a drawn out, picturesque quality that cannot be repeated in any other western picture. it is one of the greatest pictures of all time, and one of the greatest western pictures of all time. saying the wild bunch is too long is like saying once upon a time in the west, or the good the bad and the ugly are too long. when all 3 of them are masterpieces
