Movie Info

Headstrong, red-haired Anne Shirley (Anne Shirley) comes to live at the Nova Scotia farm owned by Marilla Cuthbert (Helen Westley) and her wistful brother Matthew (O.P. Heggie). At the local school, Gilbert Blythe (Tom Brown) flirts with the surprised Anne, who later learns that because Gilbert's father ran off with Matthew's fiance, Marilla hates the whole Blythe family, and refuses to allow Anne to keep seeing Gilbert. Some years later, Anne returns from normal school to learn that Matthew is desperately ill, and that because of the money the Cuthberts have spent on her education, they cannot afford the specialist who could treat him.more
