Reviews for Babe
One of those rare family films that refuses to talk -- or rather write -- down to the viewer.
It's a great story -- tender without being sentimental, great for kids, engaging for adults, and with a four-legged protagonist who's as good and decent a hero as you could ask for in Hollywood.
A little moral masterpiece with its honoring of the values of hospitality, empathy and service of others.
A lovely, intelligent gem of G-rated entertainment that is also rib-tickling funny.
Unlike subsequent talking-animal pictures, Babe is a movie in which the human leads matter as much as the animals, or more so.
This is the ultimate family film, offering all ages a fun ride with something to say buried nicely in the depths of its accessible script.
All aspects of the movie are top-notch, especially the digital and animatronic effects used to bring the animals to life.
If only people would be more like these animals, the world, though hardly saner, would certainly be a lot more fun.
So bloody loveable that even the worst cynic will be hard-pressed to condemn it.
The world of Babe isn't a seamless one, but it's surely inviting and rewarding.
Though the filmmakers romanticize farm life, they don't sugarcoat the realities.
