Unlike most of the Hollywood Gen X movies, Party Girl actually looks as if it were made from the inside.

Her godmother complies, but makes Mary work off her bail at the library. Suddenly faced with a regular job AND trying to learn the Dewey Decimal System, Mary tries to get her life in order, finding time to romance a Lebanese falafel vendor and helping her roommate become a DJ along the way. Daisy Von Scherler Mayer's winning comedy captures the spirit of downtown Manhattan in the early 90's, and coaxes a vibrant, winning performance out of Posey. [More]

Reviews for Party Girl
Posey's romp through this film is probably the best thing about Party Girl; she just may be the next 'It' girl.
When Party Girl isn't being silly, it tries to be endearing and socially redeeming, and to a good degree succeeds.
It isn't the raucous comedy it's billed as, but the funny bits are worth the price of admission.
If Party Girl weren't so contrived, and if Posey didn't exude such cold hauteur, all of that might have worked.
The movie is poppy, clever and more than enjoyable, but Posey is something else altogether. She's a revelation.
Parker Posey will either grate on your nerves or charm the daylights out of you -- or both.
It's a showcase leading role for Parker Posey, who obviously has the stuff, and generates wacky charm. But the movie never pulls itself together.
