Consensus: George of the Jungle is faithful to its source material -- which, unfortunately, makes it a less-than-compelling feature film.

There aren't as many trees, but he somehow manages to find plenty of other things to crash into--not the least of which are modern society's social norms. [More]

Reviews for George of the Jungle
This live-action Disney version is so silly, so garishly over-the-top, and so bracingly eager to please, that it's hard not to fall under its gleefully gooney spell.
An uninspired, if mildly likeable, spin on the Tarzan legend from Disney.
An amiable, highly ingratiating piece of lowbrow entertainment, and the audience of mainly young children and parents I saw it with on Saturday night clearly had a ball. So did I.
The movie would meander along, not going anywhere, and then -- pow! -- there'd be an enormous laugh. More meandering, and then pow! again.
Director Sam Weisman and screenwriters Dana Olsen and Audrey Wells have concocted a goony, good-natured yarn infused with the silly spirit of the original.
Totally silly & tree-smashing, but still with hip clever jokes & some jokes that felt familiar even though I have never seen the cartoon.
Despite a few bright moments, however, too much of the film is made up of the kind of flailing manic behavior that passes for slapstick these days.
It's amusing, which is possibly as much as anyone could ask, and the assortedly animated friends are cleverly done.
