Reviews for A Perfect Murder
A Perfect Murder begins better than it ends, and the pleasures it offers turn out to be more of a transitory nature.
Davis weaves a gorgeously lush film, charged with high tension, but the listless script renders his efforts alarmingly mundane.
Paltrow, too, is generally a good actress but there is a paint-by-numbers quality to her work here.
His [Davis] direction is swift and very effective, and the movie, shot in shades of ebony (the color of black marble), looks exceptionally handsome.
A streamlined, high gloss, touch-tone remake of the lesser-Hitchcock classic. Harken ye back to the days of rotary dialing.
While the resolution may never be in doubt, how the film arrives there is a constant source of pleasure.
Andrew Davis (of Fugitive fame) has created a new and improved version, with first-rate performances.
...A Perfect Murder has inexplicably managed to eliminate almost everything that was worthwhile about Dial M for Murder, leaving behind the nearly-unwatchable wreckage of a would-be '90s thriller.
This unscary thriller also suffers from dreadful miscasting, not the least of which is pairing Gwyneth Paltrow and Michael Douglas as the leads.
