Some reviewers have applauded Out of Sight for its nuances of character, but I and others don't see any characters at all.

Clooney and Lopez are so laid back, they anesthetize the proceedings.

Soderbergh plays it a little too cool, not allowing the story's ironic and comedic rim shots to resonate.

Much of the action seems more like warmed-over Quentin Tarantino than first-rate Steven Soderbergh.

All the fancy footwork serves to bog down the movie.

Soderbergh and his longtime cinematographer Elliot Davis have given us an action film that looks as sleek and moody as Krzysztof Kieslowski's Red.

It's refreshing to find a picture like Out of Sight, which is not only smart, but a great deal of fun, as well.

Soderbergh finds the perfect equilibrium between mainstream entertainment and arty panache, lacing this heist movie/romantic comedy with character-motivated time shifting, prominent freeze-frames, a funky soundtrack and an all-around hip vibe.

Clooney is the most impressive he's been on film. Jack Foley feels real, not like some Hollywood improvisation. Foley is charming, handsome, graceful, cultured, energetic and disciplined. He just can't stop committing crimes.
