When... Based on the book by Eddie Little, director Larry Clark's follow-up to KIDS (1995) is a gritty portrayal of a makeshift family of professional thieves on a cross-country crime spree. When small-time hoods Mel and Sid (Woods and Griffith) adopt two young hoodlums named Bobby and Rosie (Kartheiser and Gregson Wagner) in order to teach them the ropes of crime for the gain of cash and narcotics, Mel and Sid don't realize the implications of taking inexperienced workers under their wing. They soon realize, however, the dire consequences it can have. Griffith's understated performance as the heroin-addicted "den mother" was rightfully critically-acclaimed. [More]

Reviews for Another Day in Paradise
Woods and Griffith keep it fresh, but Larry Clark's vision feels surprisingly retreaded.
Another Day in Paradise doesn't have the necessary expansiveness or the depth of theme to qualify as a great movie or even a near-great movie, but in its trashy, pessimistic way, it's just about perfect.
This hard-assed film is based on a prison work by Eddie Little. It is only fun to watch in between heists.
Part kiddie porn/part heist flick, Another Day in Paradise is Larry Clark's oftentimes stunning response to Gus Van Sant's Drugstore Cowboy.
James Woods proves yet again why he is consistently one of the best actors working today.
[Clark's] second, more benign film delivers what his first promised: bad times with a wicked way of looking good.
It had the richness of character and gripping narrative drive that director Larry Clark’s first feature Kids did not have.
It's hard for Another Day in Paradise to bring anything new to the well-worn road traveled by thugs on the run. But director Larry Clark and an energetic cast keep things jumping in this morality tale about the down and dirty.
Another Day in Paradise is one big pleasurable wallow in grunge noir as only Larry Clark could have concocted it.
Refreshingly, despite finding his original fame as a still photographer and for his meretricious Kids, Clark here seems more interested in performances than look or style.
As contradictory as it is energetic, the film takes as many risks as its people do and as a result strikes a highly contemporary nerve.
Another Day In Paradise is so generally overwrought that the willing suspension of disbelief is not really an option. On the other hand, you may find yourself caring about the characters.
Another Day in Paradise isn't perfect ... but it is another nail in the coffin of Clark's critics who called his debut cheap exploitation fare.
There is little variation in James Woods's screen persona, but he does it so well.
