Fraser Journeying to the Center of the Earth

"The Mummy" star Brendan Fraser will star (for Walden Media and New Line Cinema) in a rather new-fangled rendition of the oft-lensed Jules Verne story "Journey to the Center of the Earth" -- with one added treat. It'll be called "Journey 3-D."

According to Variety, "Fraser will portray a geologist who, with his teenage son, discovers a message hidden in an ancient artifact, leading them into a previously unseen world.

Eric Brevig, who won a Special Achievement Academy Award for his visual effects work on "Total Recall," will make his feature directorial debut. D.V. DeVincentis ("High Fidelity") has written the script.

"Journey 3-D" will be shot in live action, with the otherworldly landscapes and creatures supplied by high-definition, photo-real 3-D technology."

Dear God...

I bet Verne is already rolling over in his grave.

Hopefully, it'll be better than "The Core."

I THOUGHT ED WOOD WAS DEAD.
Wouldn't be a lot easier if they'd simply dropped this idea of wasting time and money on 3D and produced a good version of Journey to the Center of the Earth instead? You'd think that after a century of making movies, the movie industry would have learned that the only gimmick that has ever worked is quality. If movie goers didn?t want to wear 3D glasses to watch sucky movies the 1950's; they won?t now. Who is running Hollywood these days anyway; the ghost of Ed Wood?

First Last

I think the movie sounds cool. Maybe thats because I thought Total Recall was really sweet and I've read Journey to the Center of the Earth.

The 1959 version was great. James Mason, Arlene Dahl and Pat Boone were all excellent. Why waste money on a remake?

I agree. Like The Omen and The Poseidon Adventure, outside of updating the special effects, it's impossible to improve it. Last night I watched The Boys from Brazil on television fo the first time in years and wondered how long it will be before that becomes a remake. Unless they turn The Boys from Brazil into a gay movie, there's nothing new they can do with it.

I do want to Fraser in a good action flick. But Journey 3-D??? Sounds like another Looney Tunes movie.
