...bad films are common enough that it's probably worth making distinctions between the unwatchable and the guilty pleasure.

Almost liked this one about greedy, young stockbrokers working for an illegal firm, but hated the ending so much it derailed the movie.
| Original Score: 2/5
Stars a host of actors that have offered so much better in past and future films...
At least, it comes without the moral piety of an Oliver Stone film.
| Original Score: C+
Intriguing ... but the film is too busy being hip and preachy to notice the irony.
Despite Ribisi's success in giving Seth some sleepy-eyed, slouching charisma, we never really know what makes him tick.
A shallow script that never gets at the heart or conflict behind the swagger.
Despite its flaws, it is a wicked little debut from an interesting writer/director.
...its promising characters are completely eclipsed by the routine plot, which is so dreary and predictable that watching the events unfold becomes somewhat of a checklist.
| Original Score: 2/4
Boiler Room generates little heat in the greedy-business genre.
This film can't overcome the unfavorable comparisons to that picture [Wall Street] from which it borrows far too heavily.
It's a callow, inert movie that has nothing to say about the state of American culture that it depicts, which amounts to fraund and brazen irresponsibility.
| Original Score: F
For all of its potential, [the film] never breaks away from being merely skin-deep.
Affleck's first scene is obviously a copy of Alec Baldwin's Oscar worthy cameo from GlenGarry, the only problem being the glaring omission of any acting talent in Affleck's limited repertoire.
| Original Score: 2.5/5
Ribisi, such a promising supporting actor in Saving Private Ryan as a medic and Friends as Phoebe's dopey brother, doesn't seem a big enough presence for a starring role yet.
Boiler Room tries to tell one of these stories, but sadly it fails to add much to the greed genre established by its two heavily referenced predecessors: Wall Street and Glengarry Glen Ross.
| Original Score: 3/5
Two-thirds into the movie, it seems to forget what it's about.
| Original Score: 2.5/4
If I want to watch folks sit around and berate each other and dog women while making millions of dollars, I'll watch WWF
| Original Score: 1/5
Boiler Room does a lot of nice things; too bad it doesn't manage to do them for a full two hours.
Don't bother spending time with this con job.
